Job Hunt
Yes, the majority of my blog posts are about the seemingly never ending job search I have been facing since the summer. I am currently working, however it is at Subway. I do not like this job..at all…and so I am still looking for a job in Public Relations, or Marketing or even Event Planning.
Last night, when I got home from work, I applied toa few places. One of is the Holiday Inn. It’s for a front desk person–checking people in and out, making reservations etc, but the do events and shit there sometimes, so that might be a good way for me to get my foot in the door. I had to fill out an online interview when I applied. They asked a ton of questions that required written answers and despite the fact that I filled it out fairly late last night, I think I answered them pretty well, so right now I’m crossing my fingers that I get a call for a real interview with them.
Last night when I got to work, I also spoke to the owner of Subway and asked that I not be scheduled for closing shifts anymore. It’s too hard on me to work that late and then usually have to walk anywhere between an hour and a half to two hours home. We don’t close until 2 a.m. weeknights (and Sundays) and 4 a.m. Fridays and Saturday nights so I generally don’t get home until about 5 or 6 a.m. Anyway, she didn’t realized that I was walking home because I can’t afford cab fare OR how long it took me to walk home, so after this schedule ends (in two weeks) she is going to start scheduling me for days or even evenings…or possibly I might be switched to a different store…which while it would suck a bit (only because my friends work at the same store I’m at now) it would be easier on me for getting home at a normal time, so we’ll see.
Good luck with the job hunt. Have you ever thought of volunteering? I know volunteering takes time but it may help you network and use your public relations skills. Local clubs always need people to promote events and get things in the newspaper.
I think the hotel (and others if this one doesn’t pan out) is an excellent stepping stone in the direction you want to go. Hotel management is everywhere and people who are good with people can go far.
Job hunting will always be an exciting yet tedious experience for everyone. Hang in there, who knows your dream job is just a step away.
